June 6th 1944 – known as D-Day, the invasion of Normandy… The world remembers World War II, the allied forces landing in Normandy.
Photographer Chris Helgren heads back to Normandy to
create a comparison image of the photos that were captured 70 years ago.
Juno Beach in Saint-Aubin-Sur-Mer, France 1944 and
a 2013 picture of Juno Beach
The image of a destroyed Rue Saint-Pierre 1944 and
Shoppers Strolling down Rue Saint-Pierre 2013
Although
70 years may have passed, I would say the pain and memories of that time live
on in many.. It is a stark reality that we are still a world that goes to war.
2014 maybe a different time but we are still unfortunately challenged with the
same global issues
I will spend today thinking of those who lost their lives
on both sides and for the prisoners of war that may have survived but with the
tremendous cost, memories.
I leave you with this song that rings true… If only we
could all get along.
